Would you start over halfway across the world?
Raised in Los Angeles by her French mother and American father, Jane runs her family’s diner in Hollywood. Between putting out fires at work and hours of commute, she never has five minutes to breathe, let alone think about what she really wants from life.
When her grandmother dies, Jane is given the opportunity to completely restart her life in a village in Brittany, on the west coast of France. But, it would mean leaving everything and everyone and taking a chance on something new.
I hope you will travel with Jane to her favorite place in the world as she walks by the sea, admires picturesque granite houses, meets old and new friends, eats lots of oysters and crepes and becomes reacquainted with a handsome man from her past.
Madame LeGrand’s Oyster Bar is about the choices we face in our lives, about being brave, and the friends that hold our hands through it all.
Welcome to Brittany
Saint-Philibert, the setting for my novel, is a real place in Brittany, in the northwest of France. It is a small coastal village of granite houses, sandy beaches and meandering walking paths. It is my favorite place in the world, as it is for Jane, my protagonist.
I chose to write about Brittany because I wanted to spend more time there through my writing. As a child, I would spend weeks there with my aunt and uncle riding bikes, swimming in the ocean, and eating oysters. I got my first striped Breton sweater there. As an adult, I’ve traveled back and every time I find that the magic is still there – I can never get enough.
